TV, film companies receive tax breaks from NJ

The New Jersey state Economic Development Authority has approved the Film Tax Credit Transfer Programwhich will award a 20 percent tax credit for film and television costs in New Jersey with a cap set at $10 million.

The program awarded nearly $7.5 million in tax breaks for productions that do some of their filming in New Jersey, although the program is set to end in 2015.

The tax credits lure productions that create jobs and spend money in the state.

Law & Order: SVU was approved for $10 million in credits last year. Major League Baseball also received $860,000 for a variety of programs.
